Celebrating America’s 250 Years of Freedom

This Fourth of July marks America’s 250 birthday, which is officially called the Semiquincentennial. It is incredible to think that 250 years ago, our Founding Fathers wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence, boldly declaring freedom from Great Britian’s tyrannical rule. This milestone invites us to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and vision that made America the “land of the free.”

Several helpful websites highlight America’s 250 celebration. America250, the official U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, provides national events, a celebration calendar, America’s Block Party information, merchandise, news, and information. Another event-focused site, Freedom250 features national signature events such as the National Mall celebrations, Rushmore 250, the International Naval Review, and more. You can also check your local tourism information website for celebrations happening in your own community.

As you celebrate this historic anniversary, take a moment to be grateful for the opportunities we enjoy in this great country. Freedom should never be taken for granted. Look for ways to get involved in your community and engage civically in local government, your participation helps preserve the liberties our Founding Fathers intended. Make sure you wear your red, white, and blue proudly and enjoy the day with your loved ones. Happy Independence Day!
